Question: Opinions on Deli Fresh Dog Food?

( Back )

Answer #1:

Dont do it its just another way for them to get money you prolly already give your dog whats in that crap

Answer #2:

Ingredients seem decent...the only thing that I would be concerned about is dental health. Its not hard food....

I'm not too big on canned/soft food....I think dogs should chew on some solid matter...cleans teeth, keeps them healthy

Answer #3:

Not sure what Leon is referring to, this is a quality food. You don't mention what kind of dog you have, but I assume a small one as most folks wouldn't want to spend the money feeding a big dog this type of food. Not that it's exorbitant, but cost similar to canned food. If your dog is healthy, no issues going on and you want to keep it that way, feed a variety of whole foods. Look at the ingredients in the foods you buy, and stick with those that contain whole foods, rather than parts and pieces. For example, whole grain rice rather than rice bran, rice protein, rice middlings, etc. Just like for us, a wide variety of good quality whole foods is best.

Answer #4:

I've fed it to my dogs before as an extra treat and they have LOVED it. It does contain rice and rice bran, so if you are trying to stick to grain-free it doesn't meet those guidelines. The rice and rice bran is lower down the list of ingredients than on many pet foods (I think it is 6th or 7th in the roll I had). I only used the rolls and like I said, I was not using it as their primary source of food.

I fed them Orijen dry dog food 2X a day and added the Deli Fresh to one meal maybe every other day. We only do this on rare occasions. Like I said, they loved it, but my kids love McDonalds too :) Especially if you are just looking at the rolls, my opinion is that you should have dry food as well. It is essentially wet dog food in a tube form, so it isn't good for their teeth like dry dog food is.

The pet food recall scared us into making our own dog food at home for Blacky and Yeti. We did alot of research into dog nutrition requirements and went through alot of trial and error trying out new recipes for the dogs - seeing what they liked and what they didn't. We ended up with quite a few super yummy recipes. Our friends begged us to share the recipes with them and we realized there were probably lots of other dog owners out there that would love to try these dog food recipes out on their dogs too! So, 123 DogFood.com came into being. It really is as easy as 1-2-3.
