easy dog food recipes - American Foxhound Questions

Question #1:

What should I have done in this situation with my dog back then?

It happened 6 months ago ever since we adopted her and it was the third day she was with us. So she was new. I had trouble putting her harness on in my backyard to take her to poop and she ended up a slipping out of it and ran into the neighbors backyard. I was new to harnesses. She ran to the fourth back yard at the fourth house away from our house and she disappeared and I could not see her and I was looking for her and still could not find her so I did and she pooped in the neighbors back yard and she walked and did not pay attention to me and I decided to pick her up and she is 65lbs and no one saw her but me and then I got her into the house and was upset and told her you scared me and she licked my face. She is American Foxhound German Shepard mix.
I was thinking either pick up the poop and lose her or pick her up and leave the poop there. She was found as an astray dog with her collar on without the owners last name, number,or address

Question #2:

Why our mixed breed dog acts like a sight hound when her other half is a scent hound?

She is a German Shepard American Foxhound mix.

Question #3:

To pet or not to pet. That is the question!?

I am the single owner to two dogs and we have lived together for 1.5 years. Sugoi is a black Lab/pit mix and I had him for almost three years. Shepherd is an American Foxhound mix. Both are males and I think Shepherd is older, but their ages are unknown. They very lovable, polite and easy going. I give them lots of attention, but it seems Sugoi is a bit neurotic and needy.

If I pet/scratch Shepherd Sugoi will immediately come over from where ever he is and weasel in between Shepherd and I. He'll be insistent and want his petting too!

My question is this:
What should my reaction be when Sugoi muzzles in on Shepherd's belly/back time?
I always scratch them both when he does this, but now I'm thinking that me the wrong thing to do.

What do y'all think?

Question #4:

DS: What are your favourite dog breeds within each group?

Have fun!

For me it is:

Sporting ~ I like Labrador Retrievers. I think Gordon Setters are gorgeous. I like them all, not into one of them in special.

Hound ~ I like the good ol' American Foxhound.

Working ~ I think Alaskan Malamutes are awesome but would never own one.

Terrier ~ Love 'em all! LOL. My favourites are both JRT and the Parson, Fox Terrier and of course the APBT.

Toy ~ Not a big fan. If I had to choose, Yorkshire Terrier.

Non-Sporting ~ Dalmatians. Chows. Sometimes.

Herding ~ I think Canaan Dogs are nice. I also like Aussies.

What about you?
@ ScottieDog: Don't get your note, guess that means I'm a dumb@ss.
Wow, that was pretty stupid (my last add). Sorry. I'm pissed at something else.

Question #5:

whats the personality of a mixed german shepherd and american foxhound?

whats the personality?
good at home?
good protector?
good with kids?
nice?
friendly?
thanks!

Question #6:

Training dog to ignore distractions?

I adopted him in July, and we finished obedience in December. I feel like I didn't get my money's worth because my dog will listen to me fine when on walks/runs, in the house, and whenever he's on a leash. But when we go to the dog park, I feel so embarrassed at the way he behaves. It's like when he's around other dogs he forgets I exist. Sometimes he's like this when he sees a particularly appealing dog on a walk.

If it helps: he's male, neutered, just turned 2 years old this month, is an American Foxhound, and particularly loves to chase small dogs (who usually don't want to be chased!). He doesn't hurt them or really even touch them, he just gets waaayyy too excited when meeting another dog or an especially friendly person when outside the house and especially at the dog park.

I don't know what to do. I'd really like to train him myself. Does anyone have any tips?

Question #7:

what breeds have you used or seen hunting?

what were they hunting?
would you say they make great pets?

most foxhound breeders dont recomend their breed as a house pet saying they need the pack.
some breeds are to nervous and anxious and will bark or bay endlessly at anything that moves.

i have 4 years to go through dog breeds ive gotten several basic ideas but would love some more.
i hunt.
i have 77 acres
i go on 2 hour walks ect
i just dont want one that is to vocal over everything that moves
it doesnt have to be a hound or working breed it just has to be a breed capable of hunting big game.

ive seen rotts, BT, american bulldog, dogo, catahoulas, ridgebacks and Black mouth currs and redbones hunting hogs

Question #8:

how do i convince my mom into getting me a new puppy?

ok so i have 3 dogs and my brother and sister each have their dog and my mom has her. I really want an American Foxhound but i don't no how i will convince her into getting a 4th dog any help would be appreciated

Question #9:

House broke dog going in the house?

We have a 7 month old American Foxhound. when we got him he was mostly house broke with accidents here and there, we worked with him and he got the idea.

But recently he has started defecating in the house, he still saves his urination for outside. I can take him outside and watch him go, then bring him in an after only a little while he has gone on the carpet. It's normally a very small, watery amount like he's having to force some out when he has no actual need to go. Sometimes he even goes in one room, then immediately goes in another. We finally had to shampoo the carpets yesterday and since the time we let him back in after the carpets were dry he has defecated FIVE times! Once was in his kennel while we were sleeping last night.

Is there any way to fix this problem?

Question #10:

Anyone expert at training hounds?

Hi, my dog is currently four years old, and is a labrador, hound (american foxhound or harrier?), brittany ? mix. She's a beautiful girl, listens to everything I say inside and knows.... seventeen commands and tricks and other nonsense :). The one thing I have yet to teach her is to recall. Once she smells or sees something, she is gone. She isn't a big eater and could care less about toys!!

My question is has anyone had luck teaching their hound the recall or any websites that can help. Not saying that I am letting her off the leash, just it's a necessary command for her own good:)

Thanks everyone.

Question #11:

How much to feed a Foxhound puppy?

I have an American Foxhound, about 7 months old. I don't want to give him too much or too little food for his growth. About how many cups total throughout the entire day should he be eating?

Question #12:

How to teach my big dog to be gentle with a little one?

I have a 1 1/2 year old Min Pin/Yorkie, she's about 11 pounds, so she's very tiny. We just rescued a 7 month old American Foxhound, he's about 30-35 pounds. They LOVE each other, and really like to play with each other. But when he gets over excited he starts to be rough and it scares Wilma (the Min Pin/ Yorkie) so she snaps at him. She never actually bites and he only reacts by backing up and looking confused. but i'm afraid if this continues he will get fed up with being snapped at, or maybe he'll accidentally hurt her. They're both good dogs, and good together, it's only when he's too excited. This usually happens before my husband gets home from work, Hank (American Foxhound) is not completely leash broke yet so I don't want to try and walk them both by myself before my husband gets home. Is there any way for me to just teach Hank that he has to be gentle with Wilma?

Question #13:

above the content on each page, there is a link that says "Add this content to your website for free. Click here to select your website's style."

Question #14:

Need to know now.

Question #15:

i heard of this dog, rookhill retriever, apparently its a cross between....?

norfolk terrier, pomeranian, chinese crested, black russian terrier, new guinea singing dog, portugese water dog, english setter, komondor, corgi, spinone italiano, parson russel terrier, borzoi american water spaniel, tibetan terrier, jack russel, swiss mountain dog, lowchen, silky terrier, english foxhound, boerboel, finish spitz, bull dog, kerry blue terrier, shetland sheepdog, soft coated whealen terrier, newfoundland, irish terrier, poodle, scottish deerhound, shapei, staffordhire bull terrier, harrier and redbone coonhound.

i saw them advertised £100 and £50 back at xmas if you still have got it, n it said they are smoot haired hardly shed and some other stuff

i just thought omg, how can a dog have so many breeds mixed up in it like that? is it some kind of designer dog or something? i thought you werent supposed to breed mutts or am i missing something here? apparently previous litters have been good temperament but i mean how would you know what there gona be like when theres that many different breeds? what have they done bred every single dog theyve had with different breeds or something?

i guess im just wondering your opinions on this. i just think its wrong.
ps im not actually joking the advert was in the shop window with pictures and everything
not trolling, lol deadly serious, i was appalled at it

Question #16:

Why do people talk so badly about Pit Bulls?

If you want to look at temperament then you should know that the ATTS- American Temperament Test Society- shows that 85.3% of Pits passed the temperament test. Some of the lower scoring dogs were the Basenji (67.5%) Bearded Collie (53.3%) English Foxhound (66.7%) Lhasa Apso- a very common small lap dog (69.2%) Patterdale Terrier (66.7%) Scottish Terrier (63.6%) Skye Terrier (37.5%) Shetland Sheepdog (67.4%) Feist (50%) Walker Coonhound (62.5%). In all actuality- dogs that are considered dangerous breeds, really don't seem so dangerous anymore.
Top Ten So-Called Dangerous Breeds-
10. Dalmation 81.9%
9. Boxer 83.6%
8. Presa Canario 89.3%
7. Chow Chow 71.3%
6. Doberman Pinscher 74.4%
5. Alaskan Malamute 84.4%
4. Husky 86.8%
3.German Shepard 83.7%
2. Rottweiler 83.0%
1. Pit Bull 85.3%

These percentages are the percentage of dogs who PASSED the temperament test. I think America really needs to reanalyze some on their prejudices against Pit Bulls.
It is also more likely that a Chihuahua will bite you than a Mastiff- so even though a Mastiff could injure you, you are still more likely to be bitten my a Chi or a Lhasa Apso- and I love Chihuahua's don't get me wrong, but they are by far some of the meanest most instigating dogs. I know I own one. And he picks fights with my Pit all the time.

Question #19:

Has anyone ever heard of a Red Irish Foxhound?

So, I'm planing on getting a Redbone Coonhound in January (litter is only 1 week now); after researching the background I found out the breed was founded from the "Red Irish Foxhound" and the "American Bloodhound." I've looked everywhere and can find no information on the Red Irish Foxhound. AKC mentions it in the Redbone's history but no other information is available. Is it known as the Irish Terrier or Irish Setter now?

The pet food recall scared us into making our own dog food at home for Blacky and Yeti. We did alot of research into dog nutrition requirements and went through alot of trial and error trying out new recipes for the dogs - seeing what they liked and what they didn't. We ended up with quite a few super yummy recipes. Our friends begged us to share the recipes with them and we realized there were probably lots of other dog owners out there that would love to try these dog food recipes out on their dogs too! So, 123 DogFood.com came into being. It really is as easy as 1-2-3.
