Question #1:

What's the procedure for burying a dog when it dies?

My puppy (17 years old Cocker Spaniel) is not doing well. I know her time is very soon. When she dies, I'm going to bury her. I keep hearing that I need to put her in a plastic bag. A trash bag doesn't seem biodegradable. Wouldn't a burlap sack or something work better?

Then I understand you're supposed to sprinkle lime powder on it so that other animals don't come dig her up, and it expediates the decomposition process. Is this correct? Anything else I need to do?

How deep do I need to dig?

Does anyone know something about this? Am I on the right track? I want to be prepared because I know the day is soon. :-(

... and I hope I don't get arrested doing this. We've got some big sunflower and corn fields near us, and I thought that would be better than the back yard.

(She's stumbling around the house right now. Her little paws keep sliding out from under her, or she can't get over the threashold in the doorway. Poor baby. As long as she's not in pain...)
No rude replies please, but I considered cremating her. They charge a bunch for it though, and it kind of grosses me out. Plus, this is my dog, not my child.

Burying her is the same idea of "dust to dust," plus you can have a little ceremony.

Would rather put the $$ into my kids' college funds.

Question #2:

How can my dog lose weight if I am always so tired and lazy?

I am 15 I do field hockey 6 times a week from 8:30-11:30. I always come home, take a shower, eat, and take a nap. Those 3 hours leave me so tired the rest of the day so I'm too lazy to take her on a walk. She is a beagle/cocker spaniel, she has more beagle in her, but she is a little bigger than a regular purebred one. She weighs about 38 lbs. I want her to lose maybe 7 lbs. She is 7 years old so I don't know how much she can take. I feed her 1 1/2 cups of food a day. Her food is made from chicken, which vegetables, some fruit and brown rice and she loves it. As a snack I give her some vegetables. I love her so much, but I am always so tired, I usually have to force myself to go. And I can't skip practices or anything like that. Oh, and no one else ever wants to walk them.
I always have to go on 2 walks because of my other dog. Taking them both at once is too hard.
I'm only 15, I can't afford anything. And I seriously cannot miss hockey or I won't be able to play in games. And my dog does not fetch or anything like that, so that's not an option.
I have a tread mill but she doesn't like it. And it's not my fault she is overweight. I still take her on walks, I just force myself and it makes it really hard for me to go since I'm really out of energy.

Question #3:

How can i stop my 11 month old puppy eating poo?

My 11 month old springer spaniel eats other animals poo! In the garden we let him off the lead and the next thing we know he's gobbled up either cat or fox poo! He also does this on walks but he used to eat all dog poo but now it's mostly cat or fox poo or animals apart from dogs! He also eats human poo that gypys have done in a field etc, he eats most poo except his own! Please help, how can we stop him from doing this?

Question #4:

Antibiotic for dog urinary tract infection?

I believe that my dog has a urinary tract infection and I am looking for an antibiotic that I can get online. She is a field spaniel/lab mix and is about 20 Lbs. I know there are a lot of people who are going to say I should just take her to a vet, but I'm pretty confident that it is a urinary infection and I don't want to pay a vet a hundred dollars just to tell me the name of what is probably a very common medication.

Question #5:

Can a 10 1/2 week old puppy swim with out every vaccine?

I'm getting a Field Spaniel puppy this Tuesday (can't wait!!!) and they love water. The breeder even warned us to close the door extra tight when running a bath or shower. We go on vacation to Lake Champlain each year and we are right on the lake and there are some sandy beaches and a spot that is good for bringing dogs swimming because no one really swims there. Anyway- The puppy will be 10 1/2 weeks old by then can we bring him swimming? Or should we wait?
I would be swimming with him.

Question #6:

What is a good name for a male, liver colored field spaniel?

I'm not gonna post a picture because you can look on google. Look at an adult if you want to look. We don't have him yet, but will on tuesday. I have a few names but what do you think would be a good one? Feel free to suggest names. No super common ones please. Nothing like Rex, Buddy, ect. ect. Don't make it too uncommon like Shonokeefo or what ever.

Heres my list:
Lupin
Yogi
Copper
Rowan
Rusty

My mom thinks he seems like a teddy bear, so I thought of yogi.
Ok, never mind what I said about too common names. Nothing... strange please.
Ok here are some more I thought of:

Theodore
Link
Luke
Wilbur
WIlly
Walt

Question #9:

Why does my Uncle's dog growl at some people but not at others?

I went to my Uncle's house the today, and he has a Field Cocker Spaniel which is a very hyperactive dog. The dog is 3 years old, and I've only seen him a couple of times before.

Anyway, my mother told me on the way there that this dog isn't normal, that he has weird issues with some people. I just laughed it off, and told her I haven't got any problems with dogs. And I don't fear them.

Anyway we arrived, and we sat in the living room where the dog was. And first thing the dog did was run to me and my mother, I decided to be cautious with the way I approached him. So I decided to let him smell my hand before I stroke him. He did that, and he accepted that I was friendly and stayed with me for about 10 minutes. So good start.

About an hour later, he came back and went to my mother who was sitting next to me on the sofa. My mother stroked his head, and he was fine with that. Then I reached out and gently rubbed his back up and down. But then it just looked at me with a strange glint in his eyes, and I knew he was quite p****ed off with me for some reason, and he growled. I immediately took my hand off and sat back, and he then snapped at me.

My mother and Uncle told me that I was very lucky that he didn't bite me. Because he usually tries and bite people who he has issues with. But I was like "what on earth did I do wrong??" All I did was rub his back to give him some attention.

One reason I think he could be like that is because he thinks he's the dominant one in the house. About a minute after he snapped at me, my Uncle took him and let him sleep on his lap. So now the dog thinks he hasn't done anything wrong.

Question #10:

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TEN FAVORITE BREEDS???!!!?

Australian Cattle Dog
Border Collie
Irish Setter
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
Brittany
English Cocker Spaniel

And What are your Top Ten least favorite breeds???

Mine are:
Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier
Chihuahua
English Bulldog
Poodle
English Toy Spaniel

Add*
To the people who say I am discriminating against breeds, I am.
But it is because I don't like their temperament or personality and sometimes looks.

And to the person that said that a pit bull isn't more aggressive than a chihuahua....I know that! I like Pit bulls more than chihuahuas! I have met more aggressive chihuahuas than pit bulls.
Of the bully breeds I especially like Staffordshire Bull Terriers...friendly, happy, lovable, great dogs....chihuahuas...not so much!

Question #11:

How do I gain my timid dog's trust?

About 5 years ago we got a rescue dog called max. He is a springer spaniel who was found abandoned in a field with another dog. It was clear that he had been mistreated as he was petrified of even the slightest of noises. However, we noticed that he was particularly scared a men, leading us to believe that it was a man that mistreated him. After 5 years he is no where near as timid as he was before, however he is petrified of my dad. Although he has improved, it is still clear that he is unsure whether or not to trust him. Here's a clue to the type of behavious he has around my dad:

- When he comes home from work, Max will bark (but NEVER growl or show any aggression towards him)
- When outside of the house, max will still look a bit unsure, but acts fine with my dad.
- When my mum is in the room, he may sometimes jump onto my dad's lap. Still looking unsure but this is clearly a good sign?
- Most confusing of all, whenever my dad gets home from work, as well as barking he will also WAG!! It's almost like he wants to trust him, but feels he can't.
- He is also sometimes reluctant to take any food from my dad, and when he does, he stretches for it in order to stay as far away as possible.

PLEASE help me with this! It is heart breaking to see and it's clearly upsetting for my dad. He loves Max just as much as we all do, and I just want my dog to understand that my dad would NEVER cause him any harm.

Thankyou for reading this and ANY sensible suggestions are welcome.

Question #12:

no dogs are willing to play with my puppy?

we take my 11 month old springer spaniel to a field where there are plenty of dogs. he runs up to dogs running in circles and sniffing them but none of them are willing to play with him. we took him to another place hoping it was just the area that was causing but it wasn't, we took him to a beach with loads of dogs and yet no play mate. in all this 11 months he has played with about 1 or 2 dogs.

Question #13:

how much tobacco is poinsonous to dogs?

she ate about enough for 2 Ciagrettes
Will she be ok? she's a field spaniel..
No vets open or anything it was about a half hour ago so no point in making her vomit....

Question #14:

What is an American Alsatian?

Looking into many different breeds, I have found that many breeds do not breed true for both Temperment nor Conformation. Example: (Labrador Retrievers) 1. Stocky and low to the ground with the short legs and large head verses 2. Field Labs who are slimmer, taller and love to hunt. (Cocker Spaniels) way too many differences in this breed. You have short coats, long coats, semi curly and cottony coats and nice friendly dogs or shy biting dogs. Ears that are high on the head and ears that are low on the skull. Then you have the flat skull and the omg... rounded skull. (Rottwielers) once again there are slim tall ones and then the short stocky and blocky ones. Want to discuss the Shepherd at this time? There are way too many different styles and types to even write in this space I have here. What I really dislike are all the FALSE information the public gets off web sites.

Question #15:

Whats wrong with my dogs ears?

My weimaraner has NEVER had any ear trouble before now. he has been shaking his ears A LOT more than normal, there is a slight increase in the build up in his ears (still nothing compared to my field spaniel) but its an increase for him. we were using the opti-rinse from the vet. we thought that maybe this was just too harsh for him, so we bought some baby wipes which we have been cleaning his ear wipes with, hasnt made it any better or worse.i tried to look in his ears, and i saw 1 or 2 larger bumps. not huge, but the size of a mosquito bite. i have a spaniel, so i KNOW an ear infection when i see one, this is not one. i was told possibly ear mites, but i dont see any, are these something i would see? any advise will help. dont tell me to take him to the vet, he IS going to the vet on monday, i just want relief for him until then. thanks :) PS: his symptoms are in both ears.

Question #16:

What are some good activities for an 8 month old field spaniel puppy?

I adopted her. She is very intelligent, active, and loves to run. She loves to go for walks. I'm thinking about enrolling her in obedience and maybe agility along with some sporting activities when she gets older. Anything else i can do? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Question #17:

Where could I cut some text out of this Shakespeare duologue and it still make sense?

Here is the duologue from midsummer nights dream I have already edited some myself but more needs to be taken off. If possible 20 lines maximum would be good.

DEMETRIUS
I love thee not, therefore pursue me not.
Where is Lysander and fair Hermia?
Thou told'st me they were stolen unto this wood;
And here am I, and wode within this wood,
Because I cannot meet my Hermia.
Hence, get thee gone, and follow me no more.

HELENA
You draw me, you hard-hearted adamant;
But yet you draw not iron, for my heart
Is true as steel: leave you your power to draw,
And I shall have no power to follow you.

DEMETRIUS
Do I entice you? do I speak you fair?
Or, rather, do I not in plainest truth
Tell you, I do not, nor I cannot love you?

HELENA
And even for that do I love you the more.
I am your spaniel; and, Demetrius,
The more you beat me, I will fawn on you:
Neglect me, lose me; only give me leave,
Unworthy as I am, to follow you.
What worser place can I beg in your love,--
And yet a place of high respect with me,--
Than to be used as you use your dog?

DEMETRIUS
Tempt not too much the hatred of my spirit;
For I am sick when I do look on thee.

HELENA
And I am sick when I look not on you.

DEMETRIUS
You do impeach your modesty too much,
To leave the city and commit yourself
Into the hands of one that loves you not.

HELENA
It is not night when I do see your face,
Therefore I think I am not in the night;
Nor doth this wood lack worlds of company,
For you in my respect are all the world:
Then how can it be said I am alone,
When all the world is here to look on me?

DEMETRIUS
I'll run from thee and hide me in the brakes,
And leave thee to the mercy of wild beasts.

HELENA
The wildest hath not such a heart as you.
Run when you will, the story shall be changed:
Apollo flies, and Daphne holds the chase;
The dove pursues the griffin; the mild hind
Makes speed to catch the tiger.

DEMETRIUS
I will not stay thy questions; let me go:
Or, if thou follow me, do not believe
But I shall do thee mischief in the wood.

HELENA
Ay, in the temple, in the town, the field,
You do me mischief. Fie, Demetrius!
We cannot fight for love, as men may do;
We should be woo’d and were not made to woo.

Exit DEMETRIUS

I'll follow thee and make a heaven of hell,
To die upon the hand I love so well.

Question #18:

I'm about to drive to Fort Worth to pick up a springer spaniel I adopted, how do I get him on a raw diet?

He is 12 months old and 45 lbs. He is also the field variety. What do I need to about raw feeding?

Question #19:

What kind of dog is the right kind for me?

I'm thinking of getting a dog, well, I am going to look into it and do lots of research so my parents will let me, but I'm not sure of which dog to get. My mom had a Springer Spaniel when she was a girl, and I kinda want one too. Here's some stuff about me::
~I really love animals
~I have a big school field right across the street from my house
~I've had pets before, but when I was really little, I didn't really feed, them,I was too lazy, I made my mom do it. But now, I'm way older, and I'm very willing to use my time to take care of my dog if I get one.
~I'll take it for walks everyday
~I live in a medium-sized house
~There are other dogs and cats in the neighborhood
~I have friends that would dog sit for me
~I'll make sure it doesn't do or eat anything it isn't supposed to, lol
~I'm a 13 year old girl
~I like to play, and cuddle with animals (Especially dogs)
~We don' have a very big yard, it's small-medium sized, and the fences have holes in them =\
~Me and my parents aren't home for the whole day, maybe from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00-4:00 in the afternoon. But my friends just got a PUPPY and their parents are high school teachers, and they are away from their house longer than we are, and my parents say we won't be home enough, but we will.
~I would like a puppy, but not one that's hard to train or stuff.
And that's about it.
What is the right dog for my type? =D
Thanks a million!! =)

And I'm not allowed Pitbulls, or Rotweilers

I like Daschunds a lot, lol, but my mom said that they get too fat and theirs backs break, which I don't think is true, they are so adorable tho! And definitely Springer Spaniels, but my mom said no, it's too big, but I have a huge school field right across the street, so I would take it for walks 2 times a day. Also my mom said no poodles, which I'm fine with that, no Beagles, no White Terriers or Yorkies or Shih-tzus. =( I don't want to spend too much money on one, from $300-$600 Canadian.

Oh, and also, I don't want a dog that sheds a lot. =)

I would get my parents to buy it too, I might help out with buying it...

We can get the fence fixed easilyand my friends that have teacher parents just put their puppy in her crate, and she's fine.
And if I adopted a dog from Petcetera, would I have to pay for it? And about how much?
And how could I persuade my parents to let me get one? I've told them I wouldn't be telling them , "I'm bored." all the time, adopting a dog would be saving a life, it will teach me responsibility, (I'm already pretty responsible), I wouldn't be on the computer as much, and walking/playing with the dog exercises your body. What else? =) That's it, lol. Sorry I ask a lot of questions. =P
