Question #1:

why does my dog paddle but never swim?

my dog jumps into water but will never go in deep enough so he would have to swim even if other dogs are swimming and you throw things in. he dosnt seem scared of water?

he is 3/4 foxhound and 1/4 otterhound

My puppy pretty much screams for no reason?

I have a 12 week old otterhound, and when she's in the garden she sometimes screams and yelps, running back in the house looking terrified, we have a dog next door but they get on fine, also we've checked the floor for anything sharp.
We're taking her to the vets tomorrow as the breed is prone to seizures but i was wondering about someones theory!

I was told hounds are just drama queens LOL and the smallest things that happen will make them make a lot of noise, is this true?

Does anyone have experience with otterhounds?

Im getting an otterhound puppy next month and I've researched them, it says they need to be groomed weekly, and walked for 2 hours a day?
Just making sure this is right, dont want a scruffy/exhausted dogg xD

also does anyone know any training tips? they are apparently very stubborn

I really want a big dog. I'm a first time owner and I'm thinking about getting a collie, golden retriever (although really common :/), gordon setter, irish setter, or otterhound. Which one do you think is best for a first time owner? P.S. I like big, protective dogs that are easy to train. :D

I want a large breed dog. Right now it's me and my husband, no kids but will probably have some one day. We have a little dog 15lbs who loves to be outside and play. We plan to get a kitten soon as well. We'd like it to be an outdoor/indoor dog so equally split. A dog who wouldn't mind being outside in the yard during the day while we work but would love to come inside in the evening to cuddle and sleep for the night. We love walking and the beach. Breeds I don't want are: golden retriever, amstaff or pit, rottweiler, dalmatian, and dogs that drool a lot like a saint bernard. Breeds I like but haven't looked into are labs, doberman, german shepherd, and otterhound. What do you think?
I wouldn't leave a puppy or untrained adult alone outside, or to roam free inside either. And it would probably more inside than outside as I don't even work full time.
